DCM and DICOM files
DCM and DICOM files are used to distribute and view medical images such as CT scans, MRIs, and ultrasound images. The files may also include patient identification data so the image can be linked to a specific individual. They are saved in the Digital Imaging and Communications in Medicine (DICOM) format, which was developed by the National Electrical Manufacturers Association (NEMA). The '.dcm' file extension is more commonly used than the '.dicom' extension for storing DICOM images.
